Pretty sure I ran into a bug where researching Hive tech wouldn't unlock the respective building(s). This is using Time Travelers and warrior traits. Demonstrated here:

Also found an issue where Kimberly's Refuge requires prometheus stone despite the production costs tool tip stating it requires only Monsatium
