Top 5 Reasons Why I Keep Playing

Posted on Thursday, December 31, 2015

There are all so many games floating around nowadays that it is hard to keep track on all the wonderful time-sinks we get to play around with. Still there are so few of them that stand the test of time. It is early to say if GC3 will still be lurking around not only on my storage, but also inside the misty fogs of the wast RAM cliffs in a couple of years but so far it proved to be a long burner.

So in the spirit of the top X lists and new year, here are my top five reasons why I come back to this game (in no particular order of priority)

  1. AI: Any game nut built for multiplayer needs to be good in this, and GC3 passes this with flying colors. Sure there will always be things to improve, but if I am looking for a challenge in this field, I do not see a rival for it.
  2. Ship designer: Powerful and beautiful what else needs to be said?
  3. Custom factions: Player crafted factions and Workshop integration- what is not to like about it? This seems like a good place to thank Gauntlet for his excellent mod. It is a treat to play with those ships.
  4. Scale of the game: Map sizes and amount of AI CIVs is staggering when compared with other games. Games can be tiny and grand and I mean GRAND
  5. Non-violent way a viable option: Now and then I like to take the more... subtle... diplomatic route but not many games allow for that (like paying a faction to wage war on my nemesis while I play friends with them ). This path is even plain necessary if there are hundreds of planets on the map as conquering them all feels more like a chore then a fun time.

Feel free to pitch in your top 5 if you would also like to kick off 2016 on a positive note and give the DEVs some feedback before you start a new game !
