Should I try the Thalan tech tree?
I was going to change the Empire of Vulcan a bit and perhaps give them Ancient and Intuitive and change from the Terran Tree to Thalan. The Vulcans take a hit to tourism to gain 25% bonus to increase in ship mass, (+2 points in dense trait).
