Gameplay Discussion: Reduction of Secondary Stats

Gal Civ 2 had a lot of stats. Gal Civ 3 continues in that tradition. I would like to take a moment to consider: would the game ultimately play better with a more streamlined set of stats?

If we look at the current stats, we have the following:

Primary

Manufacturing
Research
Income
Food

Secondary
Growth
Influence
Approval
Tourism
Diplomacy
Soldiering
Planetary Defense

 

Tourism: Currently this functions as a way to make money off of influence, so perhaps it could roped into influence? Tourism is a hard to understand and very auxiliary mechanic, I doubt the game would really miss anything by its removal.

Soldering/Planetary Defense: In general, once you control space you control the growth in Gal Civ. I would rather just give the Dregin a bonus to build transports and drop this as a stat. Planetary Defense is the same...the best way to defend your planet is ships not people on the ground.

Approval: Approval is actually a tertiary stat, affecting growth, influence, and planetary defense. Mainly it penalizes high population planets, and very large empires. I feel like there are ways to adjust food and empire bonuses to account for this without involving a whole other stat.

 

These are the 4 on my personal list, the ones I think could be removed pretty easily with not a lot of change to gameplay.

 

So I want to reach out to the community to get people's thoughts, do I have a minority opinion, or is there a large group that believe stats can be removed from Gal Civ 3?
