Very Weird behavior in late game

Posted on Wednesday, March 11, 2015

I have been playing a gigantic map game for several days. All 5 AI on normal. I am playing as Terran. I have been playing for an influence win. After turn 200 I started getting way ahead of all the AI, mainly by using relics, and tech trading. I also was exploiting the AI by buying enough of their fleets to keep them at bay. I know it's cheesy but the game is not ready for serious play so why not have fun with the exploits. At the point where my power rating started getting very high (around 2 mil I think and at about turn 225-250), my rating flipped to negative. I have read posts on this bug so I ignored it and played on. The diplomacy ratings were telling me that I was weak, but the AI had no reaction and continued to love me.

As the game wore on, my influence started kicking in and I started flipping a few planets. Iridia was the weakest AI and they were the first flip. They only had about a dozen colonies and were well positioned for negative influence so in about 25 -30 turns they were wiped out. It took a couple of turns after their last planet flipped but they went away leaving only the white "ghost" shipyards behind. At around turn 280-300 I hit 75% influence and the Altarians collapsed and lost their last colony before I won the game at the 10 turn mark.

They did not disappear as they should have and they were still participating in the game with no planets, just ships and starbases. Because of this peculiar thing, I played on just to see what was going to happen. I had several hundred thousand bc so I bought every ship and every starbase they had (for less than 10,000 bc BTW) It didn't faze them they continue to participate in the council meetings and they are still open for business, as if they had anything left to do business with.

I played on, just to see where would go. Suddenly, in addition to my negative power rating my gazillion bc goes negative about -200,000, my production shuts down, and the slider is auto set to the top. This doesn't hurt me because I am done with production and I don't really need any more research and I am still netting over 20,000 bc per turn. In a short while I have overcome the deficit and I had once again had a large positive balance. Meanwhile, having won the Influence victory many turns ago, I now own the entire galaxy. It is all blue and every AI planet has flipped except the Yor. Their planets won't flip. I figured they had the Dauntless thing but what the hell, one of their planets flips. Just one, no more. Another funny thing, maybe the Yor knows the game is officially over. They have built about a dozen constructors and they are doing a line dance all over the galaxy. Not building anything.

And oh yeah, my bc keeps going negative again whenever I get close to 2 mil.

I saved the game at about turn 400 and I can do a ticket if anyone thinks it would help. I have seen other reports of similar game behavior so they may already have what they need to fix this.Maybe the game just goes a little nuts when a Victory has been recorded but they invite you to continue playing so surely it shouldn't be doing this.

I seem to recall that in GCII, starbases would flip or maybe just disappear when the AI lost their last planet. In any case I think that when a planet flips at least the shipyard sponsored should flip too. I have a memory of a starbase culture flipping but it may be a false memory.

In case the points are lost in my prose...

  • Sudden permanent negative power rating
  • Sudden and periodic negative credits and production shutdown
  • White ghost ship yards and starbases if the AI disappears as it should when all planets are lost.
  • AI fails to leave the game when all planets are lost and continues to act as if it is still an active player.
  • Yor planets do not culture flip and then one inexplicably does flip. They may have taken the Dauntless reward but I'll bet not. Until someone assures me otherwise, I am not convinced the place holder AI is using the Ideology tree as intended.
  • Weird Yor behavior with constructors
Let me know if I need to send the saved game.
