I'm not a fun of mindless penalties/malices as a way to solve or do anything at anytime or enhance the game, but this is one thing I want badly.
I want a super mega event so diabolical it will make you cry. After hearing about 130 possible races on immense maps I think a little bit of mass extinction and mayhem will go a long way. 
So I really would love to lose a few sectors of my theoretical empire to something sadistically horrible, like a plague with no cure, massive civil war, 20+ civs declaring war, or ideology changing and people hate you, or all the above its all fine as long as it makes me cry out of frustration and fear. So think creative and convoluted to make it happen.
