Alpha .31 Feedback (also posted in Steam)

Posted on Saturday, July 12, 2014

First off, I have to say guys, with this patch you failed miserably.  I had fun.  Shame on you.  Didn’t you read what the Developers said?  I looked up at the clock and it was somehow 4 hours later.

Well, right up until the repeating crash at turn 215 (large map).  Not sure what is causing this, but it makes play testing difficult if I can’t get past turns 200-300, as has been the case with every build so far.  Please provide the cheat that unlocks all the techs so I can test the shipyard when all parts are available.

Something I noticed this time: When I was playing straight thru, I saw no “jumps” when the map quick-scrolled.  However, after loading a saved game, it started “jumping” during scrolls.  The game began crashing about 30-40 turns later.  This is the same thing I noticed in the previous .3 build.

Other comments:

On the govern planet screen, I was able to set production to 45% Research, 45% manufacturing, and 11% wealth.  (The production numbers are correct on the bottom of the Planet Interface).

I had a strange bug early in the game fighting the Drengin.  I was fighting at two different locations in the same turn.  When I would attack, the resulting battle would be for the other location.  For example, I attacked an undefended starport and my ship exploded.  But the results of the battle showed up in the other combat hex (in a different but nearby star system).  This happened several time until I finally wiped out the Drengin fleet, then it never happened again with the Altarians or the COG.

In response to the Friday stream, I did not end up using the option to turn off the grid outside my area of influence.  I found exploring easier with the grid on.

I have to admit that at first I didn’t like using the game-generated ship designs, but the more I play, the more I use them for colony ships and the like.

I have also started moving my starports to better positions, so for me this solves some of the issues I was having with them.  I would still like to choose the launch hex.

Speaking of starports, the Drengin started just two star systems away from me and had warships before I did.  If the AI was smart enough, they could have checkmated me early.  They had warships right next to my starport, but never attacked it.  (A mistake they regretted.)

For Planetary Governance: I would like to create production profiles that I can choose from instead of having to constantly adjust planet production.  For example, an “initial colonization profile” that sets everything to industrial production for the planet only.  Then change to a “starting starport” profile that would maximize ship production for a quick defensive ship and/or some colony ships.  Profiles could also be used to maximize production, research, and wealth planets without having to manually set each one.
