My little feedback

Posted on Wednesday, July 9, 2014

While I couldn't call myself hardcore GC fan I've decided to join the development process.

After few plays I have some feedback:

I have some issues with performance. Changing the windows sometimes take 5-10 seconds (it's a rare thing but it happens). Starport-->Starmap, Planet-->Starmap.

* At beginning the animation is choppy but once it "settles" it's pretty smooth. Later in game I fought the starmap chopping by zooming in and waiting few seconds.

* Sometimes I can't use quick build starport option to build my custom designed ships. Need to go through Manage window.

* Custom designs sometimes gets the thumbnail icon and sometimes they stay black.

* Once I built on all available hexes on Mars I couldn't choose endless project by double click. Focus went to base colony and nothing happened so I used the Queue button.

* Decommissioning by chosing "Cancel" button is counterintuitive. Use of bulldoze button or  buildin on existing improvements with confirmation pop up would be better (GC2 style)

* I can't say what's the maximum population of a planet (or there isn't one)

* Nebulas are shown normally even in zoomed out map. They are kind of phasing in and out.

* Add sponsor section of starport menu is scrolling very slow.

* While using normal sized interface after Alt+Tab it got messy on some screens, mostly scale/rotate/mirror/animation section of the ship design.

Ideas:

* Starport Quick build menu - it needs range/speed parameters.

* While choosing improvement it would be helpful to see which of the empty hexes has best adjacent bonuses

* Rip off from civ5. While right holding move order show how many turns to reach pointed hex. Or while ship is selected colour the range (let's say to 5 turns distance). It's very useful for manoeuvring close to enemy ships.

* On strategic map you can't tell which ship is selected. Only by the info box.

* I agree whet someone else wrote elsewhere on the forum - updating the autopilot line while ship is moving is disorientating. Better let the ship move to the end his green range and left the yellow

* Yes, zig sagging ships look funny. Maybe they can use some averaged trajectory?

Freeze

After turn where there was about 10 "Confirm battle" pop ups my fleet of 2 custom design ships went back to near starbase for R&R and when entering base game froze and ended up with windows "stop responding" message.
