My first impressions

Posted on Saturday, April 19, 2014

Hello,

As someone who loved all previous gal civ games and the quality put into them I was excited to hear about gal civ III. I did something I rarely do and bought the high end founders pack without hesitation....so what do I think of the alpha?

Well for starters we have a game that had no problems launching...I have yet to encounter any errors and crashes at this time. As far as things from a technical stand point it has been good. To me it is a very good sign to know that the alpha of this game runs better than the final release of other games.

As for gameplay, I like what I am seeing with the research and the specialization-type research. So I hope the see the research tree be deep and complex like it was before. If the game releases like past have it will be almost impossible to research everything in a single game, which is how it should be. I also hope the ability to add our own technologies via simple modding will be back.

I also like the starbase upgrade system. The ability to see the list there and having a build time for the upgrades is much nicer in my opinion. This is a good concept because before if you got the constructor there the upgrade was instant, now with having to have a build time it makes for more need to plan ahead - something a strategy game needs to have.

So all in all I like what I see so far and am looking forward to continued game development, just one question. Is posting alpha commentaries and videos on youtube okay? I don't remember seeing an nda, but I just want to make sure before doing that.
