Heroic Maneuvers?

Posted on Saturday, April 12, 2014

I might be reaching a bit. But if players are comfortable with the idea of being able to spend a bunch of money to buy a ship or structure in one turn, than shouldn't the player be given an option to "buy" a battle. Hear me out. Why not be given an option prior to a battle that allows the player to call up a "Heroic Maneuver."

I see it in every movie. I see where someone is up against almost unbeatable odds pulling off a fast one in some tight situation. Within limits of course. Imagine engaging in combat and being REALLY out gunned. But you have a lot of money to spend, sounds like a time for a paid "Heroic Maneuver!"

Hell, we already accept the fact something can be built in one week with enough money, why can't we buy ourselves a disproportionate advantage based on the player throwing a lot of money at a situation.

Either you have the money or you don't.  Both sides should have that option. Every good sci-fi movie portrays it. Even if you don't win, some song will be sung about the "Heroes at Spirax" whom did more than their fair share of damage during a battle so that local forces can mop up.

Any thoughts?
