Been playing the alpha for about an hour and I'm really enjoying it. One suggestion I though of: when you right click to select a ship to move, it would be nice to see an outline of the available movement area. This is a carry over idea from Civ5 obviously.
Two thumbs up on the movement animations and the drastic improvements to the look of the game, even at this alpha stage.
